GPA Calculator vs Grade Calculator

GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's grade points by its credit hours, summing all those products, then dividing by total credit hours. Example: an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit course gives (4.0×3 + 3.0×4) / (3+4) = 24/7 ≈ 3.43 GPA.

A 3.5–4.0 GPA is generally considered excellent. A 3.0–3.5 is good and competitive for many graduate programs and employers. Below 3.0 may limit some opportunities but context matters — major difficulty, upward trend, and internship experience all factor into how GPA is evaluated.

Use this formula: Needed Score = (Desired Grade - Current Grade x (1 - Final Weight)) / Final Weight. For example, to get 90% with 85% current grade and 30% final weight: (90 - 85 x 0.7) / 0.3 = 101.7%.

Common grade scales: A = 90-100%, B = 80-89%, C = 70-79%, D = 60-69%, F = below 60%. An 85% is typically a B. Some schools use +/- grades (e.g., B+ = 87-89%).
