There are 250 working days in 2027 for a standard Monday-to-Friday schedule in the United States. The year has 261 weekdays, and all 11 federal holidays are observed on a weekday, so 261 minus 11 leaves 250. If your employer also gives you Friday, December 31, 2027 off (the observed date of New Year's Day 2028), the count drops to 249. The calculator above gives you the number for any range of 2027 dates, and the table below breaks the year down month by month so you can plan leave, project deadlines and hourly earnings before the year starts.
The 2027 Federal Holidays and Their Observed Dates
Here is every holiday on OPM's 2027 schedule with the day it is actually observed. New Year's Day is Friday, January 1. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, January 18, and Washington's Birthday is Monday, February 15. Memorial Day is Monday, May 31. Juneteenth falls on Saturday, June 19, so it is observed Friday, June 18. Independence Day falls on Sunday, July 4, so it is observed Monday, July 5. Labor Day is Monday, September 6, and Columbus Day is Monday, October 11. Veterans Day is Thursday, November 11, and Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 25. Christmas falls on Saturday, December 25, so it is observed Friday, December 24.
The year ends with an unusual case. January 1, 2028 is a Saturday, so the federal government observes New Year's Day 2028 on Friday, December 31, 2027. OPM lists that date on its 2028 schedule rather than its 2027 one, which is why the headline count is 250. If your employer follows the federal calendar strictly, set the calculator's December 31 option to "yes" and you will see 249.
Counting Working Days Between Two Dates
Project managers, contractors and anyone with a deadline measured in business days can use the calculator's date range. Enter a start and end date in 2027 and it counts the weekdays between them, inclusive, then removes any federal holidays that fall inside the range and lists them by name. A contract that promises delivery within 30 business days of Monday, November 1, 2027, for example, has to account for both Veterans Day and Thanksgiving inside that window, so the calendar deadline moves out by two days compared with a simple weekday count.
Keep in mind that the count assumes a Monday-to-Friday week. Shift workers, retail staff and anyone on a compressed schedule will need to adjust, and state or company holidays such as the day after Thanksgiving are not included unless you remove those days yourself.
